Terrence Joseph Madigan

Terrence Joseph Madigan, son of Florence and Eugene Madigan, was born June 06, 1948, in Belle Vernon, PA and passed away on May 08, 2024 in Washington, PA.  Terry was born with Cerebral Palsy and was confronted by multiple disabilities during his life.

In his early years he attended the DT Watson (Home) Institute in Sewickley, PA, and the special education program at Clark School in Washington.  He also benefited from summer activities at Camp Easter Seals.  He lived at home with his family and later at Washington County ARC care facilities.

Terry was given more than his share of challenges in life, and he struggled with those challenges.  Not expected to live more than a few weeks after birth, he lived to be 75 years of age due to a fighting spirit, a devoted mother and father, a caring family, and many dedicated care givers.

In his teens and early 20s he enjoyed riding around the family home with a big smile on his face in the “Go-Kart” his dad purchased for him.  For years, he served as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army in front of the Giant Eagle supermarket at Christmas time, plus he attended the ARC workshop.  Trips to Pirates baseball games with his brother, Bob were a favorite outing, as well as many activities with his sister, Kath and visiting with his siblings, Richard, Joan, David, and Timothy.

Terry’s joy for others was best expressed at his brother, Dave’s funeral mass when he roared “Alleluia” in honor of Dave’s life.

Terry’s gift to the world was his winning Irish smile, and his lesson to others is to be grateful for the fruits we are given by God at birth and to use them wisely.

He is survived by his siblings, Joan of Coraopolis, PA, Kathleen of Washington, PA, Timothy (Wendie) of Faribault MN, and Robert (Peggy) of Hermitage, PA, and many extended family members, including a nephew, seven nieces and multiple cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Richard and David.

There will be no public visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, May 13, 2024 in the Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish, 119 W. Chestnut St., Washington. Those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray, PA.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to J.F.K. Catholic School, 111 W. Spruce St. Washington PA 15301.
