Elmer Thomas Sobansky Cherished His High School Football Memories Elmer Thomas Sobansky, 83 of Washington died Tuesday-March 10, 2015 unexpectedly of a heart attack at Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo, New York. He was born October 11, 1931 in Washington the son of the late Edward & Catherine Mera Sobansky. Mr. Sobansky attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and graduated from Trinity High School in 1951 where he was a member of the 1948 W.P.I.A.L. undefeated football team. He served in the United States Air Force for 4 years as an Air Policeman, being honorably discharged in April of 1956. He was employed at Hazel No. 2 in the shipping department, Carrozza's Washington Bottling, McWreath Dairy & Schneider's Dairy where he retired from in 1995. He was currently employed by Schweinebraten Bus Company as a van driver. He was a member of the Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Meadowlands where he called bingo for many years. He also was a member of the Holy Name Society, worked as a member of the Pancake Breakfast Committee, was a member of the Pulaski Club, the Fraternal Order of the Bears Club, the Arms Club and the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175 of Washington. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Washington/ Greene County Chapter in 1998 and was inducted into the Trinity Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Chirik Sobansky in the Immaculate Conception Church on February 7, 1953 by the Rev. Martin J. Hughes. His wife, Mrs. Sobansky survives. Also surviving are his children; sons; Elmer Lee (Judy) Sobansky of Cecil, Eric Lee Sobansky of Bethel Park and a daughter; Elaine (David) Blackhurst of Houston. Grandchildren; Jodie (Anthony) Kioalicas of McMurray, Jill (Ryan) Galosky of Venetia, Ryan Lee Sobansky of Marmora, New Jersey, Erica Lea Sobansky of Marmora, New Jersey, and Elmer Lee Sobansky II of Atlanta, Georgia. Great-Grandchildren; Leanne Rummler, Anthony Kioalicas III, Colin Galosky, Alexander Kioalicas, and Annakate Galosky. A brother; Franklin (Jody) Sobansky, sisters-in-law; Shirley Sobansky & Geraldine C. Reihner. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews also survive along with his God Children; Gregory S. Stolfer, Linda Amon, Robert A. Moore, Mary Ann Beam and Becky Paccone. There are many wonderful & loving friends who will deeply miss Elmer. Mr. Sobansky was preceded in death by four brothers; Paul A. (Elva) Mera, Thomas S. Mera, Francis Sobansky, and Edward (Rose) Sobansky, two sisters; Agnes H. Mera & Gertrude (Rudolph) Stolfer. Friends will be received on Saturday -March 14, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday-March 15, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc. Wilson at E. Katherine Avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director. The Holy Name Society of the Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church will recite the Rosary at 6:30 P.M. on Sunday in the funeral home. A prayer service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday-March 16, 2015 in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in the Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadowlands. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery. Full Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175 and the United States Air Force.
