Rita Ann Haggerty

November 21, 1937 - September 11, 2014

Rita Ann Haggerty, 76 of Washington was called home to be with Our Lord on Thursday-September 11, 2014 at 7:32 a.m. in a UPMC hospital in Pittsburgh, as a result of injuries she sustained in an automobile accident. She was born November 21, 1937 in Uniontown, the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Anna M. Salina Unetich. She was a 1955 graduate of Mount Saint Macrina Academy of Uniontown and a 1958 graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. She was employed as a psychiatric nurse for the Pennsylvania State Mental Health system, retiring from Woodville State Hospital in 1986. Mrs. Haggerty loved making her friends and family happy by sending cards for birthdays and holidays. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzle enthusiast who enjoyed spending time with her dogs. She had a beautiful singing voice and was a member of church choirs and performed in operettas while a student nurse. In her younger years she painted in watercolors and did charcoal drawings, which her family cherishes. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Mrs. Haggerty was a member of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church, where she was a member of the Christian Mothers and Guild, Rosary Society and a former CCD instructor. On December 26, 1959 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown, she married Patrick E. Haggerty Sr., who passed away on August 27, 2014. Surviving are two sons; Patrick E. (Sally) Haggerty of Washington and Michael Haggerty (friend-Betty) of Canonsburg, daughter; SuzAnne (Howard) Smith of Washington. sister-in-laws; Agnes Unetich of Uniontown & Mary Bidelman of Johnstown, brother-in-laws; James (Evelyn) Haggerty of Johnstown & Lawrence (Beatrice) Haggerty of Johnstown, five grandchildren; Felicia (Keil) Seybert, Kristen Haggerty, Sarah Haggerty, Shawn Haggerty & Belle Smith, one great grandchild; Arya Seybert, numerous nieces & nephews also survive. Mrs. Haggerty was preceded in death by a daughter; Meghan P. who died at birth, brother; Joseph B. Unetich, granddaughter; Shana M. Haggerty who died at birth, sister-in-law; Margaret “Peggy” Lavely, brother-in-laws; Wilbur Lavely & Thomas Bidelman. Friends will be received on Monday-September 15, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc. Wilson at E. Katherine Avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director. A prayer service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday-September 16, 2014 in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in the Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow lands.
