Judith K. Moschetta

Judith K. Moschetta, of Washington, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025, her large, devoted family surrounding her with love.  She was the first child of George and Ann Kinick of Fredericktown, PA.  Judy grew up there and graduated from East Bethlehem High School (currently Bethlehem Center), where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, Joseph Moschetta, a union of more than six decades that endured until their final goodbye.

Judy and Joe raised three children, Christopher Joseph of Washington, the late Stephen Patrick (March 2024), and Nicole Moschetta Crofford of Rosslyn Farms (Matthew), who together with their six grandchildren were their pride and joy: Stephen, Gianni, and twins, Rocco and Isabella Moschetta, and Mia and Eva Crofford.  Judy is also survived by her sisters, Joan DeFilippo of Mt. Lebanon (Gary) and Joy Jones of Rosslyn Farms (Dave), and numerous nieces and nephews as well as grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Janet.

Judy attended Waynesburg College and earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration from West Virginia University.  She would become a Professor of Accounting first at Waynesburg College and later at Washington and Jefferson College.  At the age of 22, as an attractive and sharp-minded businessperson with outstanding expertise, Judy entered the economics department as an outsider in a male-centric educational setting.  She quickly established the respect of her male colleagues and maintained her commanding presence, often teaching war veterans who were her contemporaries.  Judy was a frontrunner who truly broke the glass ceiling in her professional career, of which she was very proud.  She retired after 30 plus years to spend time with her grandchildren yet she continued as her own personal financial planner, managing her family’s portfolio and keeping books until her last days.

Reflecting on her career and teaching style, Judy would say she was a tough yet fair instructor, but her students might say her accounting expertise was second only to her fashion sense: they were known to remark that they never saw her in the same outfit twice in one semester.

In addition to being a fashionista, Judy was a gourmet cook, a bridge player, a seasoned traveler, and a lover of Frank Sinatra music.  Her “happiest place on earth” was unequivocally Walt Disney World, which she visited as often as possible with her children and grandchildren. Of all of her delights, however, nothing could match the appeal of a double-layer Krency cake, preferably with generous amounts of icing.

Judy truly was the matriarch of this extended family, a title she only begrudgingly embraced.  The loss of her beloved son, Steve was a devastating time for this close-knit family, but they, as always, drew support from one another.  May the reunion of mother and son be blessed and glorious.

Friends will be received on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 3 P.M. to 5 P.M. and 7 P.M. to 9 P.M. in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave., Washington, S.
