Colonel Charles Ross Rockwell
/Colonel Charles Ross Rockwell of Amity Pennsylvania passed away after a short illness, surrounded by his family on Monday, December 8, 2025. Charles was born the 3rd child of Marie Cheek Rockwell Briggs and Ross Roosevelt Rockwell on August 20, 1945, in West Finley Pennsylvania. He was raised in Graysville PA by his maternal grandparents, Price and Nelly Cheek. Charles attended West Greene School District, the graduating class of 1963. In 1962 he enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard, completed basic training over summer vacation, and returned to finish high school. Upon graduation, he went into the United States Army, where he faithfully, dutifully, and proudly served his country for 32 years. In 1963 he met the love of his life, Ellen Kathleen Manion of Washington. They married three years later on October the 15, 1966. They welcomed their three wonderful children, Eric, Meg, and Bret in 1967, 1969, and 1971 respectively. Charles was a graduate of the California University of Pennsylvania where he received his Bachelors and Masters of Arts. After retirement from the Army in 1995, his biggest joy was spending time with the family he built. Never had there been a better husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
Charles was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father and mother; his step father, Robert Briggs, as well as his sister, Erma; brother, Jim, and many beloved friends and family.
Charles leaves behind his dear family and so many friends; his beautiful wife, Ellen Kathleen “Kathy” Rockwell; his three children, Eric (Racquelle) Rockwell, Meg (Joseph) Bular, and Bret (Michelle) Rockwell along with his seven most cherished grandchildren, Jessica, Ross, Gabriella, Rogan, Garrett, Cameron, and Colin. Additionally, Charles leaves behind his oldest sister, Shirley Rockwell Church of Los Gatos, California, along with numerous dear cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Charles R. Rockwell will be remembered as a proud family man, a countryman, and a dear friend. To his family and friends, he was Gramps, Charlie, Rocky, and The Colonel.
