Mary Jo Shaner

Mary Jo Shaner of Claysville PA, died peacefully in her home with her loving husband, Allen, by her side on October 6, 2026.  Mary Jo was born on March 21, 1947.  Jo, as she was known by her family and friends, graduated Washington High School where she met and married the love of her life, Allen Shaner.

Jo was employed at Washington Hospital as the ER secretary for over 25 years and finished her career working at the Neighborhood Health Center day surgery as the scheduler from where she retired.  She put her whole heart into her work and loved the people she worked with.

Jo was taught everything she knew about cooking, baking, sewing, and canning from her deceased mother, Betty Rockwell-Stubenbordt-Kelso (Albert/Kenneth).

Besides being an excellent cook, baker, and making the most beautiful quilts, wall hangings, and clothes for her kids and grandkids, Jo also enjoyed gardening, camping, reading, playing games, shopping, eating ice cream, and spending time with her family and friends.  She was a hardworking, energetic passionate woman and was loved by all who knew her.

Jo had a wonderful sense of humor and never failed to bring laughter to those around her.  She will be remembered by her warmth and generosity and the love she had for her family and friends.  Jo treasured time spent together with family and friends, whether it was enjoying a camping trip, sharing a shopping day with her granddaughter, or simply being together at home.  From backyard badminton and wiffle ball in the front yard, these everyday moments brought her great happiness. The memories she created with her loved ones will be cherished for years to come.

Jo was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and cherished member of her family.  She leaves behind her loving husband, Allen; her 2 sons, Jonathan (Laura) and Tim; her granddaughter, Hannah Jacobs (Tyler) and her grandson, Brent Vanderhoof (Brittani).  She also leaves her brother, Ted Stubenbordt (Patience) and her niece, Lisa Hillenbrand and great niece, Kieran Hillenbrand and great nephew, Cole Hillenbrand.  Jo will be reunited with her deceased sister, Pricilla Brown and her niece, Amy Brown.

Jo’s kindness, strength, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.  Though she is no longer with us, the memories she created with her family and friends will remain forever.

A private viewing was held for immediate family, followed by cremation.  There will be no public viewing or service.  She will be deeply loved, forever remembered, and greatly missed.
