Thomas Cox
/Thomas “Tom” Cox, 86 of Amity, PA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
He was born March 7, 1940, in Waynesburg, PA, a son of the late James and Elizabeth (Huffman) Cox.
Tom graduated from Trinity High School in 1958 and was the proud owner and operator of “Tom Cox Remodeling” for over 40 years. He and his wife owned and operated Tom’s Place gas station and diner in Amity from 1980-1986. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Waynesburg, along with the Anawanna Club in Amity.
Tom had a passion for golf and was a member of the Keystone Club Golf League for many years. He also was a member of bowling leagues in Washington and Waynesburg and in his younger years, was a volunteer fire fighter at South Strabane Fire Dept #1. He was a member and regularly attended Abundant Life Baptist Church, Washington. He also enjoyed gardening and took pride in caring for his lawn alongside his wife, Sharon. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sharon Lynn (Montgomery) Cox; four daughters, Jody (Michael Bene) Hupp of Middletown, Ohio; Tammy (Michael) Fordyce of Amity, PA; Kimberly (Kurt) Wietasch, also of Amity, PA; and Jamie (David) Horner of Anderson, Indiana; five grandchildren, Samantha Wiles, Ryan (Nicole) Hupp, Brant (Brandy) Wietasch, Tyler (Samantha) Horner, and Macheala Horner; and eight great-grandchildren, Elijah, Micah, Jacob, Caleb, Luke, Sadie, Evelyn, and Isabella. He is also survived by two sisters, Deborah Rasel of Washington and Pamela (Doug) Korzun of Maidsville, WV. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Tom in death, in addition to his parents, were his brother, James Cox; his sister, Carole Cox; one granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Fordyce; one grandson, Gregory Wietasch; and his son-in-law, Mark Hupp.
Friends will be received on Sunday, March 16, 2026, from 2–4 and 6–8 P.M. at Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave., Washington. S.Timothy Warco, Owner/Supervisor; S. Timothy Warco II, Director; and Holly Renay Warco, Director.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 A.M. at Abundant Life Baptist Church in Washington. Pastor Robb Williams will officiate. Interment will follow in North Ten-Mile Baptist Church Cemetery.
