Patrick Eugene Haggerty Sr.

Patrick Eugene Haggerty Sr., 82 of Washington died Wednesday-August 27, 2014 at 5:20 p.m., at UPMC Hospital, Pittsburgh as a result of injuries he sustained in an automobile accident. He was born January 21, 1932 in Johnstown the son of the late Susan M. Marsh Haggerty Williams and James J. Haggerty. Mr. Haggerty was raised by his late step-father; George “Gen” Williams. He was a graduate of Johnstown High School and Indiana State Teachers College (now known as IUP). Mr. Haggerty was employed as a Social Studies Teacher at Canon McMillan Middle School for many years retiring in 1993. He enjoyed gardening, playing chess, cards, crossword puzzles, enjoyed baseball, football and his dogs which were his loyal companions. Most of all, he loved spending time with all of his family. Mr. Haggerty was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church where he formerly served as president of the Church Council and as a CCD Instructor. Mr. Haggerty served in the United States Army from 1950- 1952 during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the VFW # 191 Canonsburg and the American Legion Post # 902 Houston. On December 26, 1959 he married Rita Ann Unetich Haggerty who survives. Also surviving are his children; sons; Patrick E. (Sally) Haggerty of Washington, Michael Haggerty (friend-Betty) of Canonsburg, daughter; SuzAnne R. (Howard) Smith of Washington, sister; Mary Bidelman of Johnstown, brothers; James (Evelyn) Haggerty of Johnstown & Lawrence (Beatrice) Haggerty of Johnstown, five grandchildren; Felicia (Keil) Seybert, Kristen Haggerty, Sarah Haggerty, Shawn Haggerty & Belle Smith, one great grandchild; Arya Seybert, numerous nieces & nephews also survive. Mr. Haggerty was preceded in death by a daughter, Meghan who died at birth and by a sister, Margaret “Peggy” Lavely. Friends will be received on Wednesday-September 3, 2014 from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m. in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc. Wilson at E. Katherine Avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director. A prayer service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday- September 4, 2014 in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow Lands with Fr. John O'Shea as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Church Cemetery. Full military rites will be accorded by the combined honor guard of the VFW Post # 191, Canonsburg and the American Legion Post # 902 Houston and the United States Army.
