A Kind and Loving Man
Stephen Michael Weber, 64, of Washington, Pa. died unexpectedly on Saturday-February 4, 2017. He was born May 31, 1952 in Pittsburgh, Pa. to the late Abraham and Selma Weber of Washington, Pa. A life-long resident of Washington, Steve graduated from Washington High School in 1970 and studied Political Science at Point Park College where enjoyed working as a college radio announcer and DJ. He started working in his father’s business, Weber Furniture, at the age of ten. He owned and operated the business with his brother Fred Weber until it closed. He married Mardi Joy Perlman in 1977 and raised four children with her.
Steve was generous with his time and talents, loved animals and opened his home to dozens of rescued cats and dogs throughout his life. He volunteered for 30 years as media director of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, an all-volunteer, non-profit race that supports the Autism Society of Pittsburgh. His love of motorsports also led to wonderful amateur racing opportunities in the One Lap of America rally.
A true people person, Steve’s electric smile and infectious humor could light up a room and he was always ready to share a funny story. He was the model dad that kids looked up to. He was always there in a non-judgmental way and could bring order to the disorderly group of kids who always seemed to congregate at his home. He was the kind of parent we can all aspire to be.
A fan of show tunes, he loved to see his children perform. He could have been a great performer himself. His accents were solid and hilarious and he always opened with a joke. He was invaluable to Trinity High School’s musical productions offering time, materials, props, and, especially in the 2001 production of Fiddler on the Roof, dialect coaching to the actors. Steve’s support and encouragement in the arts propelled his children to follow their passions.
The son of a Russian immigrant, he was fiercely devoted to his family, always doing the right thing, he sought happiness not just for himself but for his family, his friends, and his community.
Steve is survived by his wife Mardi Weber of Washington Pa., his brothers; Lawrence Weber of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Fred Weber of Washington, Pa., four children; Jenifer Weber and her husband Michael Whartnaby of Pittsburgh, Pa., Kerry Weber of Oakland, CA, Elizabeth Weber of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Rebecca Weber of Los Angeles, CA, and two grandchildren; Simon and Lila Whartnaby of Pittsburgh, Pa.
