Kathleen Ann "Kathy" Segedy Amendola

Registered Nurse for 40 years at Washington Hospital

Kathleen Ann “Kathy” Segedy Amendola, 74, of Washington, passed away on August 27, 2017 at the Donnell House, Concordia Hospice of Washington, after a long illness. 

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, A. Joseph Amendola, her son Michael Amendola (Jerilyn Fortsch) of East Northport, NY, her daughter Julianne Amendola (Dan Jensen) of Minneapolis, MN, grandsons Michelangelo and Theo Amendola, nieces, nephews, and countless friends and extended family. 

Born in Fredericktown on April 26, 1943 to Andrew and Ann (Brenzovich) Segedy.  Kathy was raised in Fredericktown, attended Beth Center High School, and then Washington Hospital School of Nursing.  She also received an Associate Degree in Psychology from Washington & Jefferson College.  She met Joe while in nursing school and they married in 1964, sharing 53 years of love, partnership, family, bowling, dancing, fishing and gambling.  They enjoyed great travels together, including trips to Alaska, Hawaii, a Mediterranean trip including Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Spain and Turkey, and many cruises.  She was devoted to her family and her children and her grandsons were her pride and joy. 

Kathy spent her career as a nurse at Washington Hospital.  It was her true calling and she impacted countless lives and families through her care and healing.  She was a mentor to many and supported scholarships for nursing students for numerous years. 

Her family is grateful to her doctors and nurses in Washington and Pittsburgh who devoted time and expertise to her care over many years, and to the staff at Concordia Hospice of Washington for their warmth and support in her final days. 

A memorial service will be held on Thursday-August 31, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc. Wilson at E. Katherine Avenue, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director.  A public visitation will also be held on Thursday from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the funeral home.  Burial will be private.
