Roger Gail Wood

Roger Gail Wood, 74 of Washington, PA passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer while surrounded by his family at home.  He was born to the late J. Harry Wood and Mildred Wood (Phillips) on October 15, 1950 in Washington, PA.

Roger was raised in Carmichaels, PA and graduated from Carmichaels High School in 1969.  After high school, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1970 - 1974 and deployed to Vietnam during his service.  Once he was discharged from the Air Force, he attended Pennsylvania State University and graduated with an Associate Degree in Mining Technology in 1977.  Roger also attended West Virginia University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering of Mining in 1980. 

He was first employed by Vesta Mining Company as a mine foreman and later became president of Vesta Mine #5 until its closing.  He then worked for the Army Corps of Engineers and retired from there after 16 years. 

Roger was known to be a hard-working man.  He was very passionate about maintaining his property and especially his yard.  There were few things that Roger couldn’t fix and he was always willing to help with any project. 

Roger was the loving husband of 44 years to Toni Trapuzzano Wood and beloved father to Michael (Kauriee) Wood of Salisbury, MD, Abby (fiancé Matt Stoltzfus) Wood of Milford, DE, and Joshua Wood of Clinton, PA.  He was loved dearly and known as Pop by his grandchildren, Aiden Wood, Adalyn Dill, Gage Dill, Ryan Wood, and Emily Wood.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Anabelle Trapuzzano and also many nephews and nieces. 

Roger was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Wood; sister, Janet Pryor (Wood); sister-in-law, Mary Ann Naser (Trapuzzano), and daughter-in-law, Laura Wood (Iovino). 

Friends will be received on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 from 3 P.M. until 7 P.M. the hour of a funeral service in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave., Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Owner/Supervisor, S. Timothy Warco II, Director, Holly Renay Warco, Director.  Burial will be private.
