Rosalind V. Hammond

Rosalind V. “Roz” Hammond passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 in the Washington Hospital.  She was born May 1, 1951 in Washington, PA a daughter of the late Lee C. and Erma L. Williams Frazier.  Mrs. Hammond was a 1969 graduate of Washington High School where she played flute in the band and was one of the first African American Majorettes.  She later attended California University of Pennsylvania where she majored in Speech Pathology and Early Childhood Development.  Mrs. Hammond was a member of the Nazareth Baptist Church and had a strong Christian faith.  She was first employed at R.C.A. as a factory worker.  Mrs. Hammond was also a dedicated childcare provider for various organizations and families and worked as a mental health technician for A.R.C. Human Resources for 27 years.  She enjoyed attending WWE wrestling matches and listening to gospel music.  Mrs. Hammond also could play the piano by ear.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

On August 10, 1974 she married Lyndon Keith Hammond who passed away on April 18, 2023.  Surviving are two sisters, M. Elaine Frazier of Washington and Sharmayne Frazier Booker of Fort Worth, Texas and three Godchildren, Jamila Ponton (Alvin) Bragg of Manhattan, New York, Thema Ponton of Bronx, New York and Adom Martin of Bronx, New York.  Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a cousin, Edgar Frazier.
