Virginia Yancosek-Skowvron
/November 12, 1941 – December 8, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Virginia Yancosek-Skowvron, on Monday, December 8, 2025. Born on November 12, 1941, she was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her.
Virginia was known for her boundless love, generosity, and unwavering faith. As a devoted Roman Catholic, her deep belief in God guided her life, and her daily prayers and devotions were a testament to her spiritual strength. Her faith was the cornerstone of her family, providing a foundation of love, hope and forgiveness. One fateful day in 1964, Virginia placed a call to the local Town Taxi requesting a ride to St. James Parish (Immaculate Conception Church) to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. As an owner of Town Taxi, since all of his drivers were out on assignment, Clement Daniel Yancosek picked her up himself and drove her. Per her request, he waited for her while she made her confession. They married August 7, 1965.
Virginia took immense joy in preparing meals and blended her deep faith with a passion for the culinary arts. For many years she served as the cook at St. James Parish where the kitchen was her sanctuary. An exceptional cook and gracious hostess, Virginia had a rare gift for making every soul feel seen, loved, and special. Whether hosting weekday dinners, family gatherings for the holidays, or grand events for priests and bishops, she poured her heart into everything she made. Her meals were not just food but expressions of love, bringing joy and connection to all who were fortunate enough to sit at her table. Countless handwritten recipes have been and will continue to be lovingly passed from one generation to the next. We are deeply blessed to have learned from her hands and heart the graceful art of setting a table and the joy of serving a meal.
Virginia’s greatest joy, however, was her family. Her love for us knew no bounds, and her wisdom and guidance shaped us into who we are today. She was the epitome of grace, strength, and compassion, qualities that she passed down to her children and grandchildren. When her husband, Clement Daniel Yancosek, passed away on January 26, 1981, she became a single mother to four young children, testifying that her faith carried her through those trying years.
Virginia was a faithful member of St. James Parish. Through the years, she was a member of Christian Mothers, served on the Bereavement Committee, and was a Eucharistic Minister. She also volunteered at both the Washington Hospital ER and Tri-State Surgical Center.
Virginia was predeceased by her parents, Oscar and Stella Sims; her husband, Clement Daniel Yancosek; her sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Frank Brown; and her second husband, Walter Skowvron whom she married on April 30, 1994. The family was blessed to have Walt in their lives since he was a wonderful gift to Virginia and the most wonderful and loving “PapPap Walt” to all of the grandchildren.
Virginia will be deeply missed by her four children, Stephanie (Robert) Faro of Washington, Brigitte (Edward) Easterday of Stuart, FL, Daniel (Stacey) Yancosek of Canonsburg, and Christina (Robert) Cregut of Washington; her nine grandchildren, Amanda Faro, Emily (Anthony) Sparks, Jacob Faro, Sarah Easterday, Rachael Easterday, Joshua Easterday, Christine Easterday, Christopher Cregut and Danielle Yancosek; two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Elaina Sparks. She is also survived by her step-daughter, Arlene Skowvron-Miller of Houston; her sister and brother-in-law, Blanche and Douglas Miller of Upper St. Clair, and several nieces and nephews.
