Carolyn Densia Dunklin

Carolyn Densia Dunklin, of Canonsburg PA, died Monday, April 28, 2025 at her home from complications associated with cancer. Carolyn was born January 10, 1947 in Birmingham Alabama, a daughter of the late Lorenzo Harrison and Mary Ellen (Phillips) Harrison.

Carolyn was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Johnell Myers and Melvin Myers as well as her late husband, James K. Williamson.

She is survived by her son, Marvin Dunklin of Oakdale PA, and daughter, Annetta Dunklin of Bowie MD.  Also living are siblings, Streetie Myers, David Myers, and Mary Ann Myers as well as a number of nieces and nephews; all of which hail from Alabama.  Cousins residing locally are Leonard Williams of Washington, Jeannette Fedd of Canonsburg, and Brenda Hagan of Houston, Pennsylvania.

Carolyn was a tireless civil servant and diligent worker all her life.  Married at the age of 17, to James A. Dunklin (living), she began to build her secretarial skills.  She worked as a typist, stenographer and accountant. Her marriage and career took her from Birmingham to New York City.  Steady work was hard to find in the late 1960’s and early 70’s, yet Carolyn’s passion for achievement continued to burn. This led her to join the Army/USAR.  She was inducted in 1975 and trained in Fort Benning, Georgia, then later transferred to the 99th ARCOM, 444th Personnel Service Battalion in Oakdale, PA.  During her 29 years of enlistment, Carolyn Dunklin achieved the rank of SFC and received numerous awards for meritorious service.  Her service in Germany in support of Operation Joint Endeavor was one of her crowning achievements while on active duty.  Simultaneously, in the civilian world, Carolyn worked for McGraw Edison Power Systems in Canonsburg for 27 years. She retired as a Maintenance Dispatcher and USW shop steward.

Forever the fighter for civil rights and social justice, Carolyn was an active member of the NAACP for over 30 years.   She held numerous offices at the PA State / local levels, and for a time, was the President of Washington, PA Branch.  Retirement never slowed Carolyn down.  She was a relentless volunteer for community organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Canonsburg Senior Center, as well as being an officer at the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175 to name a few.  If you met her in earnest, you would never forget the passion and focused commitment of this great woman. She may now rest on her terms and in God’s time (forever). That is, unless she is called upon again.
