Lt. Col. Gregory M. Chaklos

Lt. Col. Gregory M. Chaklos, 74 of Pittsburgh, PA a beloved husband, father, brother and son passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026.  He was born on March 13, 1953 to Helen and John Chaklos.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Kim Chaklos; daughters, Kathy Chaklos and Michelle Buettner; son in law, Kirk Buettner and grandson, Jorden Chaklos; brothers, Jack Chaklos and Michael Chaklos; sister in law, Leslie Chaklos.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Encke; sister in law, Judy Chaklos, and a brother in law, Ted Encke.

Lt. Col. Chaklos graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in secondary Ed-Social Studies and Certificate in Russian area studies with an MPA/MRP graduate-level coursework.  He was a Lt. Col for the US Army for more than 30 plus years, with tours to West Germany from 1983 - 1987, Okinawa Japan 1999 and Ghazni Afghanistan 2008 - 2009, Ft. Belvoir Virginia 2009 and St. Louis Missouri 2010.  Lt. Col. Chaklos was the lead customer account specialist for the U.S. Marines Operational Combat Forces Team DSCC Land-Customer Operations Group with the Defense Logistics Agency in Columbus Ohio.  He was awarded the Bronze start medal in 2009, NATO Medal in 2009, Afghanistan Campaign Medal 2009, Korean Defense Service Medal 2009, Army Commendation Medal in 2011, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Achievement Ribbon, Reserve Components Achievement Ribbon, Reserve Components Overseas Service Ribbon, Air-crewman Badge, Armed Forces Reserve Ribbon and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Polish military for his efforts as an Army material command LOGCAP support officer to the Polish troops and Defense Meritorious Service Medal in 2014.  Lt. Col. Chaklos embraced his Byzantine Catholic religion and his German, Russian, Slovakian and Ukrainian heritage deeply.  He enjoyed spending his time with his family, his dogs and helping others.  He devoted his life to the U.S. Army and was so proud of what he accomplished over the years.  He will be truly missed.  We love you Dad and we know that you’re in the Lords Arms.  God Bless and rest in peace, your beloved family.
