Frank J. Stanek, Jr.
/Frank J. Stanek, Jr. 95, of Washington and formerly of Ashley, PA, peacefully passed away Sunday, April 5, 2026. He was born in Luzerne County on January 8, 1931, to the late Francis Joseph Stanek and Stella Patusky. Frank was the devoted husband of his beloved late wife, Florence Stanek (Tootsie) for an incredible 72 years.
He was a member of the graduating Class of 1949 at Ashley High School. Immediately upon graduation he entered the United States Air Force where he became a Radar Supervisor and was stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After being honorably discharged Frank and Florence moved to Manville NJ and worked at John Manville. The couple soon moved back to Ashley where he worked at Foster Wheeler. Shortly afterwards he and his wife opened “Frank’s Pizza” in Ashley. It was during this time he also trained to be a meat cutter and then worked at Acme Markets.
Frank was an avid fisherman. He introduced the sport to his sons, nephews, and son-in-laws, each of whom still talk of their memories of how he taught them to fish. He was also a perfect score (300) bowler at Stanton Lanes in Wilkes- Barre, PA. Frank loved Duke Basketball and enjoyed playing poker with friends.
Despite his successes in both business, career, and sports, when he was asked what he was most proud of, he always responded the with same answer, my four kids! As far as his happiest memories, again he always gave the same answer, Wildwood Crest Vacations with our kids.
Frank is survived by his four children; son, Michael Stanek Sr. and wife, Cindy; daughter, Sharon Coben and husband, Jeff; son, Frank Stanek and wife, Janet; and daughter, Shelby Maskarinec and husband, Bruce; eight grandchildren, Michael Stanek, Joseph Stanek, Lauren Dye (Patrick), Michelle Coben, Amelia Hoover (Austin), Ellie Stanek, Jennifer Fritch (Tyler), and Sarah Maskarinec; three great-grandchildren, Jace and Mia Dye, Adam Fritch and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave., Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Owner/Supervisor, S. Timothy Warco II, Director, Holly Renay Warco, Director. A Departing Prayers of Transfer Service will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 9, 2026 in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, St. Oscar Romero Parish, 300 Pike St. Meadowlands, PA 15347 with the Rev. Tom Gillespie as celebrant. The burial will be held on SATURDAY, April 11, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, 1594 S. Main St. Hanover Twp. PA 18706.
