Frank J. Papson, Jr.

Frank J. Papson, Jr., 77, of Washington, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026, at his home.  Born February 24, 1949, in Indiana, PA, he was the son of the late Frank Papson, Sr. and Mary L. (Simanovich) Papson.  His sister, Mary Ann Papson, also preceded him in death.

Frank was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Hilary Church.  He was a graduate of Derry Area High School, and California University, where he earned his teaching degree in 1972.  He then earned his master’s degree from George Washington University in 1979.

Frank participated in football, basketball, track, baseball, and golf during his high school and college years.  His passion for athletics remained for the duration of his life.

Frank spent his career as an educator both on and off the field. He spent the first seven years as a teacher and coach in Prince George’s County, Maryland.  Upon relocating to Pennsylvania, he taught and coached in South Park and Upper St. Clair school districts for 31 years and was a part of multiple track & field championships and 2 WPIAL football championships; Upper St. Clair in 1989 and South Park in 1997.  An avid golfer, he worked at Dogwood Hills Golf Course during the summer months.  Upon his retirement in 2010, he enjoyed remaining active in golf, along with fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his sons, Greg (April) Papson of Avella and Mike (Melissa) Papson of Washington; four grandchildren, Ben, James, Abby and Rachel, and a step-grandchild, Violet.  He is also survived by a nephew, Brian Hoover of New Mexico, and many extended family members.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. the hour of a Blessing Service in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave., Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Owner/Supervisor, S. Timothy Warco II, Director, Holly Renay Warco, Director.  The Rev.
