Dennis Ward Filippelli

1955 - 2026

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Dennis Ward Filippelli, 70, of Washington, PA, passed away on April 18, 2026.  At the time of his passing he was surrounded by his loving family.

Dennis was born July 3, 1955, in McKeesport, PA to the late Louis F. Filippelli and Marie T. Filippelli (nee Costantino).  He was the eldest of four sons, Kenneth, Donald, and David.  Dennis graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1973 and attended Penn State Dubois.  At Penn State, he followed his love of nature and conservation to a degree in Wildlife Technology, graduating first in his class.

This passion lead him on many of his life’s adventures, including marriage.  He met Kathy, his wife of 49 years, when his first job as a game manager landed him in a Pittsburgh hospital where she worked as a nurse.  That adventure continued with moves to a new city, new jobs and his own successful sales company, and a growing family, two sons, Matthew and Daniel.  While work put Dennis on the road frequently, he was always home for the important events and to support his family, whether at the dinner table, at the hockey rink, or out in the woods.  He traversed continents and oceans to pursue his love of traditional archery and ethical hunting, instilling that love in generations of family and friends.  Above all, Dennis was grounded at home, always making time for his kids, his grandkids, his friends and neighbors.

Dennis lived a very full life, and brightened everyone’s day with a big smile, a firm handshake, or a great hug.  Those that met him, family, friends, and strangers, could always find a kind word, solid advice, an open ear, or a great story, often all in the same conversation, and usually over a good cup of coffee.  In his words and actions, he set an example of how to treat others with kindness, honesty, compassion and humor.

He will be deeply missed and will be remembered with love every day.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Kathy (nee Ligeti), as well as brothers, Kenneth (Cindy) and David (Kris) and sister-in-law, Kelly Filippelli and their families; sons, Matthew (Christine) and Daniel Filippelli; and four beloved granddaughters, Evelyn, Rosie, Lucy, and Penelope.  Dennis was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Donald.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 16, 2026 in the Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish, 119 W. Chestnut St., Washington with the Rev. Alec Scheuer as celebrant.  A celebration of his life will immediately follow, with details to be confirmed at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family recommends a donation to your favorite charity in Dennis’s memory.
