Richard C. Stephens Jr.

Richard C. Stephens Jr., 98, of Washington, died Monday, June 22, 2026 in Premier Washington Health Center.  He was born May 5, 1928, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Richard C. and Lois Hastings Stephens Sr.

Mr. Stephens was a graduate of Aspinwall High School in 1946 and then served four years in the U.S. Navy.  Following his honorable discharge, he attended Washington & Jefferson College, graduating with a BA degree in 1952.

During his college days and for a short period after, Mr. Stephens worked at WJPA and then for a few years with Sun Oil Co.  In 1960 he returned to his alma mater to serve for the next 30 years as Director of Alumni Activities.  He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Alumni Association and an Honorary Degree from the college following his retirement in 1990.

Mr. Stephens was a long-time member of The Washington Country Club and was the Director of the Over the Hill Gang at the club.

His wife, Donna L. Spragg Stephens, died in 2001.  A daughter, Karen, also died in 1987.

Surviving is a son, Scott (Kathy), of Washington, and two grandchildren, Patrick, of Honolulu, HI and Tony Kamenski of Monessen.

Friends will be received on Monday, June 29, 2026 from 2 P.M. until 6 P.M. in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave., Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Owner/Supervisor, S. Timothy Warco II, Director, Holly Renay Warco, Director.  Graveside services and burial will be private in the Washington Cemetery with full military rites accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175 and the United States Navy.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Washington and Jefferson College Annual Fund.  Condolences may be expressed at www.WarcoFalvoFuneralHome.com
