Richard “Dick” Pauls

Richard “Dick” Pauls of Washington, PA previously of Claysville, PA passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026.  He was born August 15, 1947 in Pittsburgh, and was the son of the late Joseph and Rosina Pauls of Mars, PA.  Dick married Cathy (Roth) with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.  He was a devoted father to Brandon and a proud grandfather to Kendell who brought him tremendous joy and pride. 

In 1965 he proudly served as captain of the football team at Mars High School.  His passion for athletics continued throughout his career where he served as an Athletic Director for the Boy’s Clubs of America and also coaching youth football.  He then spent more than 20 years working as a coal miner at Bailey Mine.  Outside of his career Dick was an avid Model Railroader.  He enjoyed the creativity and detail that went into building his H.O. layout.  Those who knew Dick will also remember him for his great sense of humor and his ability to tell a great joke.  His humor and laughter will be remembered by all who knew him. 

Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Pauls; his sisters, Rosemarie Galati and Dorothy Schmid; and his nephew, Kevin Schmid. 

His legacy lives on through the family he loved and the young people he inspired.  He was a true, kind, honest man.  An example of a person we aspire to be.
